When Dodge decided that they should install their monstrous 8.3L V10 engine from the Viper into another vehicle, they chose the Ram as the suitable candidate. Produced between 2004 and 2006, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was classed as a sport pickup truck. Just 10,046 units were produced over the three-year run, and in July 2004, NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan took the wheel of one to set the Guinness World Record as well as Sports Car Club of America record for the world’s fastest production run, averaging 154.587mph over a two-way run. That makes this 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 Crew a rather special vehicle from Texas with 83,000 miles.
Coming in at a not-insignificant 227.7 inches, the Crew Cab version of the Dodge Ram SRT-10 is quite a large behemoth. This 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 Crew wears nice black paintwork with a reportedly recent paint correction done. Only 1,314 black Crew Cabs were produced for the 2005 model year. It rolls on a set of double-five-spoke alloy wheels similar in style to those on the Viper that has been refinished. It’s also got those Viper-style racing stripes on the hood. Elsewhere, it’s got the unique hood with power bulge that came only on the Ram SRT-10, and the tonneau cover with an integrated spoiler that came in halfway through the model’s run. Head around back, and twin large exhaust outlets indicate that this isn’t a garden-variety pickup. The interior continues the black theme with seating for five occupants. White-faced SRT gauges and 160-mph speedometer tell you that this Ram is packing some serious performance. You also get manual dual-zone climate control and an aftermarket Kenwood head unit has been installed, with dual subwoofers mounted directly beneath the rear seats, along with an amplifier.
The raison d’etre for this 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 Crew is its monster 505ci (8.3L) V10 engine plucked straight from Dodge’s most serious sports car, the infamous Viper. In this installation, it puts out a slightly vicious 500hp and 525lb-ft, propelling this 5,600lb truck to sixty from rest in 5.3 seconds, and enabling a top speed of 147mph despite the distinctively un-aerodynamic shape of a pickup truck. For Crew Cab, the only transmission option 48RE four-speed automatic transmission which this example has, driving the rear wheels via a Dana 60 rear axle and enabling some sick burnouts if you desire. A Magnaflow exhaust and replaced headers are included in this example too. In the suspension department, the Ram SRT-10 saw a lowering of the standard suspension and Bilstein shock absorbers installed for enhanced handling. 15-inch disc brakes upfront and 14-inch units at the rear help bring the beast to a halt.
