When Ford debuted the Mustang in 1964 and created a whole new class of car known as the pony class, General Motors was on the case to create a competitor. They created two, in fact, the Camaro in 1966, and the Firebird in 1967. In 1969, Pontiac introduced a specialty package for the Firebird, called, you guessed it, the Trans Am. This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary is a celebration of Ten Years of The Trans Am. By 1979, the second generation Firebird had been around for nine years, and needed some refreshment before the third would take over three years later. The 10th Anniversary (mistakenly called the Silver Anniversary by some due to the silver paint), gave the model a much needed shot in the arm. This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary bears its distinctive silver paintwork and period wheels, wrapped in Firehawk Indy 500 tires. Just check out those details, including the prominent hood scoop, side scoop and kicked-up rear spoiler. This is peak Seventies design! The interior also features a silver and gray theme in keeping with the exterior, and seats four occupants on leather seats.
