There are few cars that are as well known as the Pontiac GTO. The first GTO arguably created the muscle car genre, but this, the second generation, helped define the segment for years to come. The 1968 Pontiac GTO won MotorTrend’s Car of the Year award, and it’s not hard to see why. Here was a car that packed enormous power into a beautiful bodyshell, and with an affordable price tag. Our featured car mixes things up with a new riff on this classic. Instead of the old-school 6.6-liter V8, you’ll find a more modern 5.3-liter Chevy LS engine under the hood. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this 1968 Pontiac GTO restoration.
1968 saw an all-new body style for the Pontiac GTO, with the second-generation car moving away from the sharp edges of the earlier model and embracing a more streamlined silhouette. That “Coke bottle design” is preserved with this stunning restoration, painted in a tasteful shade of Nightshade Green. You’ll find classically designed but larger-diameter new American Racing wheels which are wrapped in new Nitto tires. The hood features an RPM gauge directed at the driver’s eye line for perfect shifts on the blacktop. Inside this fully restored GTO, you’ll find a back leather interior. The driver is presented with a deep-dish wooden-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel with the Pontiac Motor Division logo at its center. You’ll also find three meter binnacles that feature upgraded semi-digital gauges reading speed, RPM, oil pressure, voltage, water temperature, and fuel level. The cabin also features air conditioning thanks to the addition of a Vintage Air A/C system.
One of the main aspects of this 1968 Pontiac GTO restoration is the modern powerplant that sits at its heart. Under the hood, you’ll find a 5.3-liter Chevrolet LS V8 engine. This engine features a cold air intake, and is married to an automatic transmission.

Our featured car is an early-model 1964½ and features a new paint job and a rebuilt engine. If you’re looking for the perfect entry into the world of classic Mustang ownership, this classic stallion is the perfect way to do so.
