The Willys Jeep is a historic part of American automobilia, right from its introduction during the Second World War. Built by Willys-Overland and Kaiser Jeep, this vehicle is recognized by sight to this day, and introduced the iconic seven-bar front grille. The Willys Jeep Wagon was the first Willys product with independent front suspension, and the optional four-wheel-drive variants are considered to be the first production SUVs! Here’s a 1951 Willys Jeep Wagon 350ci from South Carolina which has undergone a rebuild. If you’re looking for a classic Willys Jeep Wagon but one that’s had a few tasteful mods and will stand out on the road, here’s the ideal candidate.
The Willys Jeep Wagon was designed by Brooks Stevens in a process that used simple sheet metal for the body shapes. This made it very popular for Willys to produce economically by outsourcing body production, as well as for repairing when damaged. This 1951 Willys Jeep Wagon 350ci was repainted before the current seller purchased it, and wears an eye-catching coat of yellow with contrasting dark ‘Woodie’ accents as was popular at the time. Chrome accents complete the body, and it rolls on a set of 15-inch yellow-painted steel rims with chrome bands and center caps, with Michelin tires. The grey and yellow interior was redone as well before purchase by the current owner, and seats five occupants. There are additional gauges which function, air conditioning and a modern Pioneer head unit for your tunes. A four spoke Grant steering wheel, metal gear selector knob and metal pedal caps complete the package.
The Willys Jeep Wagon of the forties and fifties came with a range of four and six cylinder engines, but this 1951 Willys Jeep Wagon 350ci has seen an engine transplant at some point in its life. This engine is a GM Goodwrench 350ci (5.7L) crate V8, with electronic fuel injection and a Flowmaster exhaust, as well as an aluminum radiator for optimal cooling. Power figures for the stock GM Goodwrench are stated as approximately 250hp. The engine drives the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. The vehicle has also received new rear axle bearings, new brakes, new master cylinder and new shocks all round.

The modern day SUV is the swiss army knife of the automotive industry, in that it has many uses. While your could argue that the picture of an SUV taking to the great outdoors in style slowly fades away, what is present today is your ticket to experience what a true offroader should look and feel like. It takes shape with this lovely 1952 Willys Wagon.

Willys is a name that’s best remembered by the Willys Jeep of World War II, a vehicle that spawned several official and unofficial derivatives, and icons of which live on in the current Jeep brand of Stellantis. However, the Willys-Overland company is much older, dating all the way back to 1908 when John Willys founded the company. In fact, John Willys didn’t create the company, but bought the younger (by just five years) Overland Automobile. Between 1914 and 1933, Willys produced the Willys-Knight range of two and four door cars. What we’ve got here is a 1925 Willys-Knight Roadster that’s more of a restomod, as it packs a much newer drivetrain than what would have originally propelled this Twenties automobile along the roads of the time. The mileage on the car is reported to be just 7,500 miles, and if you want a slice of Twenties American automobilia with a twist in the tale, take a chance on this car.
