Ford introduced their Thunderbird model to steal sales away from Chevrolet’s successful Corvette. Dubbed "a personal car of distinction" by Ford, the Thunderbird was built upon the heritage of the bespoke roadsters of the 1930s. This model saw no less than 11 generations and we are talking about the very first generation in this listing. 1955 was the year that the first ever Ford Thunderbird hit the streets. It was immortalized by the Beach Boys' famous song 'Fun, Fun, Fun' and in the George Lucas film 'American Graffiti'. Therefore, as shown before you, this stunning example marks a very special piece of automotive Americana. It is reportedly a one-family-owned car, with its original owner being the current owns father.
The Thunderbird came with a removable fiberglass top as standard equipment, and the hard top is included in the sale of our subject car. One of the most striking features of this car is the exhaust pipes that exit through twin bumper guards bolted to the rear bumper. This example is painted in a suiting black paint job, which is accentuated by all the chrome garnishing throughout the car. The car sits on a set of custom period-correct alloy wheels. You step into a time capsule, as you are taken back to the 50s with this gorgeous interior. This new interior is wrapped in black leather to match the exterior. The floor-mounted three-speed shifter and Aftermarket AM/FM radio are some modern features in this classic. The big steering wheel aids in maneuvering the vehicle, as power steering is not available on it. With no power brakes as well, it offers the driving experience of the bygone era making this vehicle a time capsule.
The first generation Thunderbird was available with two V8 engine options. This example still runs with the original 292 cubic inch V8 as reported by the owner. The 292-ci V8 reportedly pumped out 193 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque when it was new. When paired with the three-speed manual transmission, which has been freshly, rebuilt this Thunderbird can get up to phase.
