V8 engines have always been part of Lamborghini's legacy, but with the dominance of their V12s and V10s, no one expected a day when Lamborghini would shift to another powertrain. Even more surprising was their embrace of electrification. However, they haven't gone fully electric yet. Beyond the powertrain, there's much more to the Lamborghini Temerario. Lamborghini claims it sets a new standard in the super sports car segment, calling it a "furioclasse," a car in a league of its own. Its design draws inspiration from Lamborghini's past concepts, and the automaker boasts that it has reached new levels of aerodynamic efficiency. Inside, the Temerario stays true to Lamborghini's fighter jet-inspired cockpit with a few new twists. We'll cover each detail as we go on. Let's start with performance.
Lamborghini has constantly been badgered about sharing powertrains with Audi, among other manufacturers in the VW group, but not anymore. This is because the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-plane V8 in the Lamborghini Temerario was designed in-house, and alone it produces 789 horsepower. It's complemented by three electric motors, two on the front axle and one alongside the engine, making 220 horsepower, which brings total power output to 907 horsepower and 590 lb.ft. Impressive right? But that's not all. The engine revs to 10,000 rpm and sounds fantastic even with the limited factory exhaust. Mated to the engine is an all-new 8-speed DCT, and when you put everything together, it results in a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of around 213 mph, which could be better if the car didn't weigh nearly 3,800 pounds, roughly 800 pounds more than the Huracan.
The Lamborghini Temerario's cabin is designed similarly to the Huracan's but with a higher emphasis on comfort. From what we know, buyers get two seat options: sports seats and carbon fiber double shell seats. Lamborghini guarantees ergonomic support with both options, though the sports seats will offer greater comfort, while the carbon buckets focus more on providing extra support. A key update to the interior is the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, paired with a 9.1-inch passenger-side display that mirrors similar data. The central 8.4-inch infotainment screen is expected to offer more features than the Huracan's. Although the Temerario appears more streamlined than its predecessors, it provides more space with enhanced headroom, legroom, and visibility. This is due to its lower seat positioning and new spaceframe chassis, which accommodates taller drivers as well. Additionally, the frunk is larger than the Huracan, and there is more storage space behind the seats.
Like its bigger sibling, the Lamborghini Temerario didn't deviate from Lamborghini's distinctive design language with its sleek, puristic lines and compact proportions. Its design is anchored by a sharp nose with equally sharp headlights complemented by hexagonal daytime running lights. The hexagonal theme, which has been a symbol of Lamborghini's design essence, is pervasive throughout the exterior elements, extending to the side air intakes, headlights, and exhaust tips. From the side, the Temerario's profile features a broad shoulder and aerodynamic lines that stretch from the front over the doors to the rear. The roof's curvature is designed to direct airflow to the rear wing, which sits behind a transparent engine cover.
Besides the hybrid powertrain, the Lamborghini Temerario debuted with a few new tech fittings, such as a new connectivity suite incorporating a web radio, voice assistant, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The displays also integrate a Lamborghini Telemetry 2.0 app and software specifically designed for the car. All are controlled by a single "electronic brain," as Lamborghini calls it, to ensure maximum design, interaction, and use coherence. The hybrid powertrain brings forth the new driving modes: Recharge, Hybrid, and Performance. Each mode then has auxiliary modes, such as Città, designed for urban driving. It can be used in Hybrid mode or Recharge mode. Other modes include Sport, which enhances the car's response all around, and Corsa, designed to enhance the car's dynamic capabilities while on track. Lastly, there's an all-new Drift mode, which we don't need to explain what it does.
The base MSRP of the Lamborghini Temerario is expected to be around $350,000, approximately $25,000 more than the Huracan STO. While trim details are still to be revealed, it's predicted that the price could approach $500,000 once Lamborghini releases the full trim lineup. Like the Revuelto, the Lamborghini Temerario represents a major shift for Lamborghini, which is now embracing a hybrid future in their lineup. But despite this change, the Temerario remains true to Lamborghini roots, which is evident from its name, which was derived from a famous fighting bull. Also, its overall design and fighter jet cockpit-inspired cabin reflect the automaker's heritage.
