We all know about the SUV trend, but another distinguishable one that popped up about a decade ago is that of four-door coupes, and it doesn’t seem to be dying down. With that in mind, Audi is already preparing a third-generation A7, its flagship four-door coupe. But the second generation isn’t ready to die just yet. For the 2024 model year, Audi has restyled the S7, the second sportiest iteration of the A7. The changes are mainly focused on the front end, and while they’re not that extensive, they include some nice new details that make the S7 look even more premium and elegant than before. There is also an additional trim level, although the pricing remains the same for the most part, which is great since the Audi S7 was always much cheaper than its competitors, such as BMW and Mercedes. But before going further, look at the ones currently for sale here at Exotic Car Trader if you are looking to buy an Audi S7.
Not too long ago, it was difficult to distinguish top-of-the-line super sedans from their more pedestrian counterparts. But with the turn of 2010, that all changed, and RS, M, and AMG models became increasingly more aggressive and in your face as an effort to appeal to younger crowds. However, the Audi S7 maintains the elegant and sporty design of early super sedans while being much faster than most. And that’s a big part of why it outsold the M850i and the AMG GT. Another part is that it’s considerably cheaper than both despite being introduced at roughly the same time in 2018. And since Audi is known for making sensible cars, the A7 is more practical and usable than its competitors. That said, it has some drawbacks regarding performance and driving dynamics, as all Audi models do, but the S7 masks them much better than most of its stablemates, and we will discover how shortly.
While it doesn’t have as many sporty details as an RS7, the Audi S7 isn’t too far off either. In other words, it’s much closer to the RS7 than the A7. As soon as one glances inside, the first thing that catches the eye are the beautiful sports seats featuring hexagonal quilting and contrasting stitching. Those seats are found in the RS7 and can be in the same leather/Alcantara combinations. The steering wheel features aluminum inlays with an S7 badge; the only downside is that it doesn’t get a flat bottom. But that’s neglectable next to the S7’s sporty virtual cockpit, a 10.1” infotainment screen, and an 8” AC screen. Despite the sloping roof line, the space of the S7 is extremely impressive, especially in the rear. And with a huge hatchback trunk, it has almost twice as much trunk volume as the competition. It also gets a ton of standard equipment, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, a forward collision warning, and a lane departure warning just to scratch the surface.
The Audi S7 exterior used to be subtle, and it remains subtle in 2024, but in a nicer way. While the design, shapes, and lines didn’t change over the previous model year, there is still a noticeable difference. Looking at the front end, the bumper features new side intakes, but the only difference is an additional aluminum inlay, which separates the intake into two. That change doesn’t make the S7 look more aggressive but more high-end. The aluminum theme continues on the main front grille, which now has a redesigned mesh that looks much more modern. Again, aluminum extends to the front splitter and the wing mirrors, a nice throwback to the earliest RS models. Matrix headlights look as good as ever, and so does the OLED tail light bar. Staying at the rear end, the quad exhausts are the first hint that this isn’t an average Audi, especially since the exhausts are real. For the 2024 model year, the S7 also gets some new wheel designs that accentuate the impressive six-piston calipers. Overall, the devil is in the details regarding the S7.
Even with only 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, the Audi S7 is impressively quick. That’s largely thanks to its Quattro four-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. As a result, the Audi S7 slingshots to 60 in just 4.1 seconds and finishes the quarter mile in 12.5. And while it’s noticeably slower to 60 than the 600+ horsepower RS7, it’s just half a second slower over the quarter mile. Interestingly, that’s not because the S7 is lighter but because it’s not. The S7 weighs 4,597 lbs., some 50 lbs. more than the RS7, but then again, German cars have been overperforming in recent years, especially the Porsche-derived 2.9 V6 found in the S7. The only aspect in which the S7 falls considerably short compared to the RS7 is the top speed, electronically limited to 155 mph, while the RS7 goes on to 190. But with everything said and done, in the real world, hardly any driver will wish for more performance than the S7 has to offer.
The pricing hasn't changed significantly, given that the Audi S7 is still the same model as before. The S7 now starts at $86,395 in the entry-level Premium trim, which is around $1,000 more expensive than the 2023 Premium Plus. Premium Plus, on the other hand, has moved up and now starts from $90,195, while the top-of-the-line Prestige is $93,795, some $2,000 more. The Prestige trim unlocks soft close doors, a power trunk, automatic headlights, a head-up display, a leather center console and dashboard, heated rear seats, and a fragrance diffuser, among other equipment, making it well worth the money especially if you are looking for a used one, some of which you can find here at Exotic Car Trader.
Overall, the Audi S7 is no race car, nor is it trying to be one. Instead, it offers about the same kind of comfort, refinement, and understated design as a regular A7 but with a lot more punch. Couple that with sporty details all around, a much more dynamic suspension setup, and a ton of standard equipment, and the S7 easily becomes the sweet spot of the A7 lineup.
