Despite two-door coupes giving up more and more of their market share to SUVs, the Audi S5 will see a third generation in 2025. That means it’s time to say goodbye to the second generation, but despite that, Audi made sure to keep potential buyers interested in the 2024 Audi S5. Like other Audi models, the S5 gets a host of new technologies for the 2024 model year and most of it comes as standard. Some of it includes a new adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, and an improved traffic sign recognition system, among other things. Even more interestingly, the prices have remained the same for the most part, with an average increase of just 2.5% across the range. But before we go into more detail on how good of a deal Audi has made the S5 to be in 2024, look at the ones currently for sale here at Exotic Car Trader.
Even since the first generation, the Audi S5 never had the sharp handling one could expect from its BMW counterpart, or the sheer power synonymous with AMG models. The S5 was always much more usable, easier to drive, and even faster in the real world, especially when the conditions were less than ideal. At the same time, it drew less attention than its competitors, which is another huge plus for many buyers. As a result, Audi sold around 170,000 Audi A5s in the US alone between 2014 and 2024. The second generation was introduced in 2017, with a major facelift under way in 2020, which thoroughly revised the exterior, making it look much more similar to the RS5 than a standard A5. After that, Audi didn’t introduce any major updates, with the most notable one coming for the 2024 model year. And with that, the second generation ends in place of the third generation, rumored to get a hybrid system and 150 horsepower more than the current generation.
For the 2024 model year, Audi gives the S5 the same treatment as its other outgoing models. That includes a heated steering wheel, a remote start function, a new parking aid system, and an updated infotainment system allowing the driver to download third-party apps. All of those features come standard. But while the new adaptive cruise control, cruise control assist, hands-on detection, and improved traffic sign recognition are standard on other 2024 models like the SQ5, for the S5, they are optional. A $1,500 option, to be exact, comes as part of the Navigation Package. Besides that, the interior remains largely the same, which is good. The Audi S5 retains the attractive, three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom and diamond-quilted leather seats. Audi’s virtual cockpit is standard, as does the updated 11.1” infotainment system. Overall, the Audi S5 includes much more standard equipment than its competitors, and even the entry-level models are full of modern technologies and features.
The exterior of the Audi S5 didn’t change one but for 2024, and it didn’t change much since the 2020 update, either. That said, the 2024 update was minor, so that shouldn’t be expected. Regardless, the 2024 Audi S5 looks almost as modern as the latest models from Mercedes and BMW thanks to matrix headlights that come as standard and OLED tail lights. The 2020 update also gave the front bumper much bigger intakes and a revised grille. Couple that with a more aggressive rear diffuser; it becomes fairly difficult to distinguish it from the more powerful RS5, which means it was a move in the right direction. The exterior can be customized with aluminum highlights or a more aggressive Black Optic package that blacks all the shiny exterior trim and includes a black roof. And while the 2020 update certainly made the S5 more attention grabbing, it’s still more subtle than the BMW M440i and the Mercedes C43.
With BMW and Mercedes introducing four wheel drive systems to their sporty models, the Audi S5 lost its advantage regarding acceleration. As a result, the Audi S5, with a 0-60 run of 4.3 seconds, is around half a second slower than the C43 and M440i. But even so, the S5 packs enough punch to satisfy even the most demanding drivers. Thanks to its twin-turbocharged V6, which delivers 350 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The top speed remains limited to 150 mph, while its curb weight of 3,825 lbs. is impressive and nearly 45 pounds lower than the M440i. Even so, the Quattro all-wheel drive system does mess with the weight distribution, making it much more prone to understeer than its competitors. However, the four-wheel drive system is fairly advanced with continuously adjustable torque split and active yaw control, which shifts power between left and right wheels, giving it a much more lateral grip and helping reduce the dreaded understeer.
Despite the 2024 update and a good number of new equipment that comes as standard, the Audi S5 price barely Increased. The base model is now $58,595, just over $2,000 more than the previous model year, while the top-of-the-line Prestige trim is less than $1,000 more expensive. In comparison, the M440i starts at $62,445, while the C43 starts at $61,850. Considering how much more equipment the S5 gets as standard, it became an even better deal than before, especially if you go for a used one, which you can find on Exotic Car Trader.
After all, the 2024 Audi S5 is still a very attractive coupe that packs a serious punch. It’s also better value for money than it was just a year earlier. However, it might be worth waiting for the all-new 2025 model for those who are not necessarily after the best deal possible. On the other hand, if you want a used S5 or any other sports coupe, SUV, or luxury vehicle, buying it through Exotic Car Trader makes the entire process as inconvenient as it gets.
