The Audi RS7 was always one of the brand’s most attractive cars, and one of the fastest. In recent years, its competition has become much more serious thanks to the introduction of the M8 Gran Coupe and the Mercedes AMG GT. But Audi is no second tier car manufacturer and won’t give up that easily. So, for the 2024 model year, the RS7 gets marginally less power than the much more expensive AMG GT 63S and more power than the M5 Competition. Achieving this wasn’t as simple as turning the boost up and is by no means the only improvement. The 2024 Audi RS7 is also lighter than before, and thanks to the revised suspension and drivetrain, it feels noticeably different to drive. There are also some major changes to the trim levels and pricing, but more on that later. You are welcome to look at the RS7s currently for sale here at Exotic Car Trader before we continue.
The Audi A7 came as a response to the Mercedes CLS and was one of the first cars to follow the four-door coupe recipe. That trend was one of few that rivaled modern SUVs; even today, they heavily outsell their two-door counterparts. And while the RS7 doesn’t have a two-door version, it still outsells the RS6 in Europe and the US. As a result, the RS7 is now in its second generation, which came out in 2018, 8 years after the first generation was introduced. That said, between 2018 and 2023, the RS7 didn’t see any major updates, but the 2024 model year takes things up a notch, which is an effort by Audi to keep the RS7 relevant before a new generation comes out next year in 2025. The new RS7 will be available as a station wagon for the first time and will likely replace the RS6 in the US, while the sedan RS7 will remain available in all markets.
The interior is one of the model’s highlights, as is the case for most modern Audis. The RS7 gets the same interior treatment as other RS7 models. That means its bolstered sports seats get contrasting stitching with hexagonal quilting extending to the rear seats. A flat-bottom steering wheel is another signature RS detail and can be finished in Alcantara or leather. The RS7 also benefits from dual infotainment screens in the center console plus a virtual cockpit, so technology and usability will never be an issue. At the same time, extensive ambient lighting further improves the premium look, while soft-touch materials, aluminum, and leather can be found in virtually every corner. Overall, the interior design looks natural and well put together which can’t be said for most of its competitors. At the same time, the RS7 gets almost twice as much trunk space as the M8 Gran Coupe and the AMG GT, and the rear seats are nearly as spacious as they are in an RS6. Like other Audi models, the RS7 is sporty, luxurious, and practical inside and easily beats the competition with all things considered.
Not much has changed on the outside for the 2024 Audi RS7, but it didn’t have to. The RS7 looks just as good, if not better, than any of the latest four-door coupes. The matrix headlights make it look modern, while the giant front grille adds to the sporty look and doesn’t look out of place. The side intakes are also huge and aggressive to the point that they widen the front bumper noticeably. New, 22” wheels fill out the giant wheel wells, which, at the front, almost blend with the hood. Moreover, those new wheels are forged and 11 pounds lighter each, reducing the unsprung weight by a whopping 44 pounds. They also improve the exterior by showcasing the giant ten-piston calipers and 15” rotors. The roofline and rear end are extremely slanted, making it more like a coupe than many two-door models. Tail lights are another highlight as they span the entire width of the trunk with the giant diffuser and integrated mesh grille. Completing the picture are two giant oval exhausts and an active trunk spoiler, both hinting that this is a serious performance sedan.
The extra 30 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque are enough to improve the 0-60 time for the RS7 noticeably and the ¼ mile time even more. The 2024 Audi RS7 makes 621 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. That shows that Audi is taking performance seriously and is no longer happy with taking second or third place. The 0-60 time has also improved from 3.5 to 3.3 seconds and because the Performance trim is the only one available for 2024, the top speed is a very impressive 190 mph. The RS7 is a hefty thing at 4,920 lbs., although it’s now 18 kg lighter thanks to less sound-deadening materials. Even so, the RS7 feels light on its feet thanks to revised air suspension, and even better on three way adjustable hydraulic suspension that comes as an option. It also helps that rear-wheel steering comes as standard, although the RS7 still suffers from understeer more than its competitors. But that’s also what makes it safer and easier to drive at the limit.
All the improvements we discussed came as part of the new Performance trim, now the sole option next to the special edition Bronze. As a result, the starting price is higher at $130,195, a $5,000 increase over the 2023 model. That’s a fair price to pay for the extra performance. Especially when we consider that the BMW M8 Gran Coupe has a $10,000 higher starting price while the AMG GT is nearly $25,000 more expensive. And on the used market, the RS7 is an even better deal so make sure to have a look at the ones currently for sale at Exotic Car Trader.
Audi has improved the RS7 for 2024 with bigger turbochargers, a more advanced center differential, and a thoroughly retuned suspension. And despite all those changes, the RS7 is still substantially cheaper than its competitors making it difficult to wait for the third generation to be unveiled in 2025. Buying a used Audi RS7 is an even bigger bargain, and if that’s what you are after, consider buying it through Exotic Car Trader.
