The original Mustang Boss 302 of the late 1960’s is an iconic muscle car in every respect. So, when Ford decided to resurrect the idea in 2012, the bar was already set high. Many feared the reincarnated Boss 302 would be nothing more than a marketing exercise that evoked memories of the original through visual upgrades and nothing more. However, the fears were put to rest when the car was unveiled. While visually, the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 does differ from the GT500, there was so much more going on under the skin. The result was almost universally praised by the press, with an extra 32 horsepower from the engine, a completely revised approach to the car’s suspension, and improved brakes. If that wasn’t enough, the Boss 302 presented today has gone under some significant modifications by GALPIN Auto Sports. With a host of upgrades, and some eliminations, this Mustang is set as a proper track car with a gutted interior and a new 5.2L V8 engine that features other functional upgrades that could be the perfect track-weapon in your garage. This track ready Boss 302 also comes equipped with a trailer for easy towing.
One look at this 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302, and you know it means business. Finished in orange and decked out with a not-so-subtle aero kit, this Mustang takes the original Boss 302 and adds a lot more aggression. Our featured car sports a large front splitter from Ford Performance and an equally massive rear wing. The hood is vented, and you’ll also find carbon fiber side skirts. Poking out the rear is a massive carbon fiber wing for added rear downforce. Inside, this 2012 Mustang features a full roll cage, while the interior has been stripped of all unnecessary elements, such as the carpets, for the full weight-saving package. The seats are from OMP Racing and feature Race Quip harnesses. Steering inputs can be dialed in via the Ford Racing-branded flat-bottom race steering wheel from Sparco. There’s also an HP Tuners nGage to monitor the Mustang Boss 302’s vital signs and provide on-the-fly tuning support. Between the seats, you’ll find an MGW shifter and a fire extinguisher.
Under the hood, you’ll find a brand-new 5.2-liter V8 with a reported 500 miles on it. The engine has been further breathed upon with various parts from Ford Performance, including camshafts, high-flow fuel injectors, an intake system, and a Cobra Jet intake manifold. The car also features an aftermarket oil pump. Long tube headers and a Borla Performance Industries exhaust system have been installed. The manual transmission is coupled with a McLeod Racing RST clutch kit.
