We’ve used the word open top quite a decent amount, the truth is that only a small percentage of the roof folds away with the buttress section adding more aerodynamics. And if you want the wind in your hair, you don’t need to stop your McLaren Spider on the side of the road. Simply slow down and to 25mph and have the top fold away in only 15 seconds. While road noise, or the lack thereof, has been a hallmark of the McLaren Spider, things still won’t get too bad to the point of raising your voice while having a conversation with the roof folded away thanks to the wind deflectors. The only time you need to worry about the noise is when you reach highway speeds and even then, it’s not too bad.

You get the IRIS info system as standard which you can control via a 7-inch touch screen. The only downside is that you might need a bit of time to familiarize yourself with where all the controls are especially if it’s the first time using the info system. It could be the one thing that seems less user-friendly when you consider that the rest of the car is super easy to use. While you might notice the transmission moving between gears at extremely low speeds, it is seamless and smooth at higher speeds. The driving position is comfortable and the forward as well as rear visibility are great owing to the thin windscreen pillars.
