The Ford Mustang burst onto the scene in 1964, creating a new segment that marked the dawn of the muscle car era. Anyone who saw it fell in love with its bold design, powerful engine options, and an unbeatable combination of affordability and performance. Throughout the generations, it has evolved, adapting to times while staying true to its roots. And since Ford has pledged to keep the Mustang a V8, well at least for the higher trims, we're ensured of the Mustang's lasting appeal for a while. One of the perks of having the V8 Mustang in production is that it's a prime canvas for modes allowing tuners, in this case, Hennessey, to push beyond what Ford could, well, at least for the naturally aspirated Mustang GT. What performance package does the Hennessey Performance Ford Mustang GT have?
The Hennessey Ford Mustang GT got a similar upgrade package as most Hennessey-built cars but under a new name, the H850 package. It includes a Whipple supercharger complemented by an air induction upgrade and an upgraded fuel pump, among other supporting mods resulting in 850 horsepower and 650 lb.ft at the rear wheels. This results in a 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds, nearly half a second quicker than a stock Mustang GT. It'll do a quarter-mile run in 10.9 seconds at 133 mph, which is also an improvement over the stock GT's 12 seconds at 119 mph. We doubt the top speed changes by much compared to the 155 mph Ford states the Mustang GT will do.
Inside, the Hennessey Performance Ford Mustang GT's interior remains majorly unchanged from the standard Mustang GT. But if you buy one from them instead of taking one you already own to them, you'll find the seats dappered in black leather complementing other interior accents. The only notable differences are a few Hennessey badges, for example, on the shifter knobs, floor mats, and in some cases the headrests. As Mustangs have mostly been through the years, the cabin is relatively practical with four seats. We doubt that taller passengers will feel comfortable in the rear though, especially with the front seats pushed further back. The trunk is generously sized, large enough to fit the usual luggage.
Hennessey typically leaves the visual design of their cars untouched, so their Ford Mustang GT mostly maintains its factory appearance. It still exudes the signature Mustang menace, though we would have liked to see a lowered suspension, as the noticeable wheel gap isn't the most appealing feature. Wheel upgrades are available, but the stock wheels are solid, thanks to Ford's improvements with their standard options. The highlights for us are the new-generation headlights and taillights, which are sharper while carrying forward the timeless design that has been a hallmark of the Mustang lineage since the very first one rolled off Ford's assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan.
The 2024 Ford Mustang GT was unveiled with a fair amount of goodies, all of which you get in the Hennessey Performance Ford GT. A major highlight is the drift brake, which Ford describes as adrenaline-boosting. Mated to the engine is a slightly tweaked version of the factory 6-speed manual transmission with rev-matching ensuring smooth shifting at any speed. But if you want more precision, the 10-speed select shift automatic which also adds a remote revving feature that allows you to rev the engine with the push of a key fob button. Ford took it all digital in the cabin with a highly customizable 12.4-inch instrument cluster flowing into a 13.2-inch infotainment display that incorporates Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and more.
Hennessey will charge you approximately $26,000 for the Mustang GT's H850 package. Add that to the roughly $45,000 MSRP, and you'll have a brand-new car with nearly 900 horsepower for less than $90,000. If you buy a Hennessey Mustang GT from them, the price depends on the Mustang's trims, considering you can get a Mustang GT in Coupe, Premium Coupe, and Premium Convertible configuration, with the highest priced being the convertible with an MSRP of just over $53,000. In a world where performance cars are increasingly shifting towards being hybrids and electric, supercharged V8s are a welcome break, and Hennessey knows it. The Hennessey Mustang GT is one of the best you can get from them, and it promises way more than just more power.
