6x6 trucks are a curious anomaly in the car scene. With their six massive wheels and towering presence, these behemoths defy logic and practicality. Their existence seems almost obsolete in a world increasingly focused on fuel efficiency and environmental consciousness. Yet, they continue to garner admirers, towering after virtually every other truck and car on the road. As mentioned earlier, the Hennessey Velociraptor 6x6 is one of the most iconic examples. 6x6s have been a part of Hennessey's lineup, so you probably know how they do it: an extra axle and a hot of performance upgrades resulting in a truck that will get you as much attention as a number of exotics. So, what are those upgrades that the Hennessey Velociraptor 6x6 has?
The engineering and customization required to convert an F-150 Raptor into a 6x6 is far more extensive than any other modification Hennessey performs, except for their fully custom, in-house cars. The most significant modification is the addition of a third axle, extending the wheelbase by around 55 inches compared to the standard F150 Raptor with a SuperCrew cab. Both rear axles locking differentials, and the car sits on an upgraded and lifted Fox suspension to accommodate the extra weight and enhance the car's capabilities. The engine gets a stage 1 twin-turbocharger upgrade, a high-flow air induction system, stainless steel exhaust, and a tune, among other upgrades, resulting in 558 horsepower and 622 lb.ft from the 3.5-liter V6. That would have been quite a power increment for the standard Raptor, but considering the expanded proportions, the result is that the Hennessey Velociraptor 6x6 weighs nearly 7,000 pounds. But it's surprisingly quicker than the standard F150 Raptor, doing 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, give or take, and topping out at 120 mph, which is plenty for a car with power being sent to six wheels.
Hennessey left the cabin part of the Velociraptor 6x6 intact, meaning you still get a decently equipped and comfortable interior. The only downside is that getting in and out will require some getting used to, even with the installed sidesteps. There's spacious seating for five and ample storage compartments for tools and gear. To mark its unique identity, Hennessey added branded badges on the headrests and a few other spots. The extended bed is a major benefit of the chassis expansion, offering room for longer and heavier cargo, supported by the enhanced suspension and extra axle.
Menacing is the best word that would best fit the Hennessey Velociraptor 6x6. Its size is the first thing that strikes you, especially if you've never seen one up close. The front fascia retains the Raptor's signature rugged grille with bold FORD lettering, flanked by sharp LED headlights that give it an angry glare. Custom Hennessey steel bumpers at the front and rear add durability and enhance the truck's off-road aesthetic, complemented by integrated LED light bars for a more commanding look. The massive 37-inch off-road tires wrapped in 20-inch Hennessey wheels give the truck a serious lift that further enhances its appeal. Its wide fenders, especially at the rear, make it look incredibly muscular.
The Ford F150 Raptor, and by extension, the Hennessey Velociraptor 6x6, comes with various driving modes, allowing the car to tackle different terrains, mostly off-road terrains. However, Hennessey has acknowledged that, while the Velociraptor 6x6 is capable off-road, most buyers are drawn to its head-turning presence rather than using it for typical Raptor exploits like dune bashing or rock crawling. Rarely will you see one with its dual axle peers. It retains Ford-equipped tech and amenities comprising powered, heated, and cooled front seats, electronic pedal adjustment, a multifunctional steering wheel, and an analogue/digital instrument cluster. The infotainment display is an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Even though it's not the most responsive, it's fairly equipped, incorporating Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and navigation, and provides access to the backup camera, among other car functions.
A new Velociraptor 6X6 based on the third-generation Ford Raptor will set you back roughly $400,000, which is inclusive of the cost of the standard truck and modifications. Hennessey will do a 400-mile road test before handing you the truck and will include a 4-year/36,000-mile warranty. The same applies to the VelociRaptorR 6x6, which will set you back $499,999. The Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6 isn't just a 6x6 truck; it's a bold expression of power and dominance. While it might not be the most practical purchase if you're in the market for a truck, its ability to turn heads and leave a lasting impression is unquestionable.
