The Chevrolet Corvette, America's sports car icon, has a rich history spanning over decades. From its humble beginnings as a fiberglass-bodied dream car to its current status as a supercar contender, the Corvette has consistently pushed the boundaries of performance. So, no, it isn't a supercar yet. Not even with the C8's Ferrari-like appeal and exotic-sounding exhaust. Nonetheless, the C8 embodies everything that a premium sports car is supposed to be, and it's among the best Corvettes you can buy, especially if it's a Stingray, classics and newer generations considered. Stock, it's enough to give you enough thrills to want to drive it more. But if you get behind the wheel of a Hennessey H700 C8 Stingray, you get a whole new experience. How much power does it have, and what are some of the upgrades it has over the standard C8 Stingray?
Hennessey's upgrades package typically includes a supercharger upgrade, which isn't any different for the Corvette C8 Stingray. Theirs got the H700 upgrade kit that results in 700 horsepower and 638 lb.ft from the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 thanks to a new centrifugal supercharger as the main show complemented by a high-flow cat-back exhaust, intercooler upgrade, and more. That's almost twice the power the C8 Stingray has from factory, but the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic remains untouched. Hennessey doesn't provide any specific 0-60 times, but they say the Hennessey H700 C8 will do the spring in the mid-2-second range. However, we can guarantee that the top speed is 205.1 mph, as tested at the Continental Tire proving grounds on May 8, 2020. That's higher than a handful of supercars, some of which you can list from the top of your head.
Chevrolet upped their game with the C8 Corvette's interior, which Hennessey didn't alter, as it looks nothing like other cars they have in their lineup. The highlight is the center console with a tall bank of switches that seems lifted from a spaceship. But besides being aesthetically pleasing, it bisects the cabin in half, making it hard for the passenger to access the infotainment display angled towards the driver. Comfort is excellent, and so are the materials used. If anyone who has never been in a Corvette enters a C8 blindfolded, they'd never guess it's a Chevy. Another major highlight is the storage space, as the car gets two trunk areas, one in the front and one in the rear. If you want to drive with the top down, you don't have to sacrifice a lot since the roof is stored in the rear trunk.
Like the standard C8 Corvette Stingray, the Hennessey H700 C8 Corvette has a certain appeal that feels too exotic, considering we've gotten used to the Corvette having a muscle car aesthetic. But it looks fantastic, and that doesn't do it justice enough. Its sharp lines give it character, and it's hard not to resist giving Chevrolet's design department their flowers. It's immaculate from every angle, from the front with its aggressively large vents to the side profile, which, if you squint, almost looks like a 458 Speciale. The rear end is equally appealing, and the wing is like a cherry on top of the icing.
Carrying over most of the tech from the standard C8 Stingray, the Hennessey H700 C8 Corvette has a well-equipped tech suite. The infotainment display we mentioned is a 10.2-inch screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, aux input navigation, and more. It's complemented by a 12-inch customizable digital instrument cluster. As part of the standard equipment, Chevy included a 14-speaker Bose sound system, power-adjustable heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and keyless entry, to mention a few features. The driver assist and safety features suite is well catered for as well, with electronic stability control, front and side airbags, ABS, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, and more.
The complete Hennessey H700 upgrade kit comes in at $49,950. Combine that with the C8 Corvette Stingray's MSRP, which starts at around $70,000 for the 2024 model year, and you've got a car that can outperform nearly any supercar on the market. Is it worth it? Without a doubt. If you're already sold on buying one, check out the Corvettes we have for sale among our Chevrolet listings.
The Hennessey H700 C8 Corvette is a testament to American engineering and a compelling argument for why the Corvette, though not officially a supercar, can certainly perform like one. It's fast, good-looking, and sounds great. What else does it need to be a supercar?
