In the 1960s, when the car industry was booming, Ford introduced the Ford Bronco. It quickly rose to become the best no-nonsense off-roader that could take on anything from rocky trails to muddy bogs. Unfortunately, like most good things, its production run temporarily ended in 1996. Fast forward to 2021, Ford reintroduced the Bronco, and even though we loved to see it back, it was quite a disappointment that it wasn't launched with a V8. Nonetheless, the V6 was enough, especially in the Raptor spec Bronco that would go under Hennessey's wing in the same year. The result was an extreme off-roader that's probably the best Bronco you can get your hands on. How much power does the Hennessey Bronco Raptor have, and what performance upgrades does it have over the standard Bronco? Keep reading.
The Hennessey Performance Bronco Raptor has the same 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 as the standard Bronco, but thanks to Hennessey's VelociRaptor 500 upgrade, it produced 500 horsepower and 550 lb.ft. That's 88 horsepower and 110 lb.ft more, which enhanced the car's dynamism on every surface. 0-60 mph takes just shy of 6.0 seconds, which is not much different from the standard Bronco, but every mph feels more brutal. The top speed increases from 114 mph to around 120 mph. Besides engine upgrades, the VelociRaptor 500 upgrade also includes an upgraded exhaust, 18-inch or 20-inch Hennessey wheels, 37-inch off-road tires, chassis dyno tuning, and more that we'll cover as we touch on the interior, overall design, and tech.
Hennessey keeps their Bronco Raptor's interior true to the rugged off-road style of the standard Bronco but adds in a few signature touches. For example, the seats have Hennessey embroidered headrests, and the factory carpets have been replaced by Hennessey WeatherTech floormats. Plus, even though not visible most of the time, the door sills have red Hennessey Performance badges matching other Hennessey accents in the interior. Interior space remains enough for five, and the trunk is large enough for anything you want to throw in, whether camping gear or groceries.
The wheels and tires Hennessey includes as part of the Velociraptor 500 package give the Hennessey Bronco Raptor a meaner aesthetic alongside the upgraded front and rear bumpers. These upgrades are complemented by Hennessey and Velociraptor badging, the most noticeable being Hennessey lettering on the hood. Some examples have the Heritage edition livery which enhances the car's visual appeal and sets it apart from other Broncos. A feature the Hennessey Bronco shares with other Broncos is the removable doors and roof, a setup you'll likely take advantage of frequently.
Ford's core tech in the Hennessey Bronco Raptor remains intact, but Hennessy gave some mechanicals a serious upgrade. For example, they added a front and rear leveling kit evening out the factory rake, providing a more balanced level appearance that is more visually appealing and improves ground clearance, handling, and towing, among other things. A supercharger couldn't be added as Hennessey does to most cars they tune, so in addition to the exhaust, the engine got an upgraded heat exchange, high-flow air filtration, and a tune, hence the power increment. Hennessy's upgrades on the Ford Bronco will dent you roughly $33,000, and if you were to buy one from them, it would cost you an extra approximately $80,000 for the car.
