First impressions matter in anything you're doing, and it's a factor many people use to judge things. Gone are the days of hoping a buyer sees past minor imperfections. Today's buyers expect nothing less than perfection, and that's where meticulous detailing steps in. You must create an excellent first impression when showcasing your exotic car for sale to land the best buyers. And there's no better way to do this than detailing your exotic car with the steps highlighted in this blog post. So whether you're a seasoned dealer or a private seller looking forward to selling your exotic car, these detailing and staging tips (they're not secrets anymore since we're sharing them with you) will help you in staging your exotic car for sale.
Detailing your exotic car's exterior goes beyond a simple wash. You need to do it correctly. Before you start, gather your tools and choose an excellent shaded spot to begin your detailing process. We've outlined a list of things to do on the car's exterior.
Get these items: Invest in high-quality car wash mitts, microfibre towels specifically for detailing, pH-neutral car shampoo, clay bar kit, polishing compounds, wheel cleaner, degreaser, glass cleaner, trim protectant, tire shine, engine degreaser, and a pressure washer (where necessary).
Meticulous Hand Wash: Gently remove loose dirt and debris with a strong stream of water. Pay particular attention to wheel wells and undercarriage. You can use a pressure washer or get two buckets for this task. Fill two buckets with water and add your cleaning agent to one of the buckets. Dip your mitt in the soapy water and wash a small section at a time. Rinse it off immediately to avoid spreading dirt. Ensure you use separate mitts for the wheels and the body. When you're done, use microfiber towels specifically for drying, and pat it gently to avoid scratching the car. Don't leave water droplets to dry, as they can leave water spots.
Touch Up The Engine Bay And Glass: Your cleaning process should include cleaning your engine bay and the glass on your car. Before cleaning the engine bay, cover necessary parts like the battery, air intake, and electrical components with plastic bags. Use a dedicated engine degreaser, following the instructions carefully to avoid damaging sensitive components. Use a gentle brush and water to remove loose dirt and dust, and avoid excessive water near electrical components. As for the glass, use a dedicated glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth or brush to remove streaks and ensure crystal-clear vision. Clean the headlights, taillights, badges, and exhaust tips with appropriate cleaners to ensure every detail shines.
Polishing And Treating: Run your hand over the surface to feel for imperfections like swirls, scratches, or water spots. Ensure you've washed your hands with clean water and that they're dry before you do this. Select a polish appropriate for your paint type and apply it in small sections using a polishing pad on a drill or by hand and buff it to a high shine, following the product instructions. You can also apply the clay bar treatment, which removes embedded contaminants that regular washing can't. Follow the clay bar kit instructions precisely, using lubricant and light pressure. We recommend doing the clay bar treatment before polishing the car.
Work On The Wheels: The wheel is the last part of the exterior you should work on. To clean and polish it nicely, apply tire cleaner based on the tire type (rubber, performance, etc.) and scrub with a dedicated brush. Rinse the wheels when you're done polishing it. While you let the tire dry, you can apply a wheel cleaner based on the wheel material (alloy, chrome) in your exotic car to avoid damage. Spray gently with a soft brush, and rinse well. If your wheels have minor scratches or curb rash, consider professional refinishing to restore their original glory.
Before you begin cleaning the interior, remove all your belongings and items like trash and floor mats. Start by dusting everywhere. You can use a handheld vacuum cleaner to blast dust from vents, crevices, and hard-to-reach areas. Follow this up with a microfibre cloth for intricate spots. Lifting the seats and accessing hidden areas for comprehensive cleaning is also great.
Cleaning The Leather: You should carefully clean the leather materials in your car with the right cleaners. Get a pH-balanced leather cleaner to remove grime and built-up residue without damaging the leather's natural oils. For perforated leather, use a dedicated brush to dislodge dirt trapped within the perforations. After cleaning the seats, apply high-quality leather conditioner or protectant specific to your leather type to nourish and protect it.
Cleaning The Fabric: If your exotic car has a fabric interior, you should get fabric-specific cleaners. The cleaner used here can also be applied to the headliner if made of fabric. Follow the instructions on the cleaner to get the desired results while ensuring you don't wet the interior too much. As for the carpets and floor mats, use a carpet cleaner or shampooer designed for car interiors and pay special attention to high-traffic areas like footwells.
Odor Elimination: If the car's interior has an odor, you should try and remove it. First, identify the source of any unwanted odors, such as spills, smoke, or pet dander. Then, you can use baking soda and activated charcoal bags to trap the odors. You can also use the Chemical Guys odor eliminator to eliminate the odors.
To stage your car for a photo shoot or video tour, choose a backdrop that reflects the car's luxury and eliminates distractions. A clean garage, a professional photography studio, or an outdoor location with a scenic vista, free from clutter and harsh shadows, are ideal. Opt for natural light during the day or professional studio lighting for even illumination. But beware that studio lighting can reflect off your already polished car's body. As you take photos of your car, ensure you take as many shots as possible of all the parts from different angles. Exterior photos should also show the door closed and opened (trunk and engine bay inclusive). If you're not on a budget, hire a professional photographer to capture these photos. For video tours, ensure you're recording with a good camera. Top-of-the-range smartphones with good cameras can suffice if you know smartphone photography well. Don't record your video on windy or sunny days so that it won't affect the sound quality of your video.
First impressions matter; meticulous detailing and expert staging can turn those initial glances into lasting admiration and, ultimately, a successful sale. Now go forth, unleash your inner detailer, and stage your car for stardom – a new owner is waiting!
