In the past two decades, there was no lack of exclusive supercars and SUVs with enough allure to stop traffic. But regardless of how many millions such vehicles might cost, barely any of them can match a lifted full size truck with six wheels. One of those is the Chevrolet truck 6x6 built by Hennessey Performance. Also called the Hennessey Goliath 6x6, this behemoth is based on the Chevy Silverado Crew Cab Z71 which is already one of the biggest vehicles on the road. But after the conversation, it becomes both taller and longer all in the service of becoming one of the most capable off road trucks money can buy. As a by-product, the Goliath became even more practical, and since Hennessey didn’t go all out when it comes to horsepower, at least not with the base model, all Goliaths came with a very impressive warranty for what they are. With all things considered, the Goliath is the most down to earth 6x6 truck Hennessey had built so far. But before we uncover what down to earth means in terms of three axle, half ton trucks, have a quick look if any are currently for sale here at Exotic Car Trader.
The whole 6x6 craze began in 2015 when Mercedes unveiled the AMG G wagon 6x6. Even with a seven figure price tag, the fact that it had six wheels was all that mattered and Mercedes sold every single one of them before it even made them. With such an obvious sign there was a big market for such vehicles, the 6x6 G wagon would trigger a dawning of special conversions and no other manufacturer capitalized as much on the trend as Hennessey did. So far, Hennessey had made three different 6x6 models, the first of which was based on the F-150, the following on the Ram 1500, making the Silverado the last model to receive an extra axle. But unlike the Ram and the F-150, the Silverado didn’t aim for headlines and front pages with exorbitant amounts of power as is the norm with virtually all Hennessey builds. Instead, the Goliath 6x6 kept the original power output making it somewhat unique as it still made sense as a normal truck to a certain extent, and not just a toy to be used for show on an occasional weekend. Although, its price certainly doesn’t suggest that and neither does the fact that Hennessey only made 24 examples.
Even though Hennessey likes to maintain the factory finish inside, the Chevrolet truck 6x6 still takes luxury to the next level. The seats as well as every other surface covered with leather has been reupholstered. New leather is of much higher quality than what Chevrolet offers in the Silverado, plus it gets a few bespoke details as well. The black leather gets red piping and “Goliath 6x6” embroidery on all seats. Another interesting detail is a plaque with the model name and the serial number, signed by John Hennessey himself. Apart from that, the Goliath’s interior looks just like any other Z71 Silverado. However, the Goliath does get virtually every option ticked off including the premium Bose sound system, a 15” heads up display, a sunroof, a rear view camera, and adaptive cruise control just to name a few. It includes thousands of dollars worth of options before Hennessey does its magic. The Goliath 6x6 is essentially a luxury SUV as far as the interior goes even though it may not be as bespoke as a Brabus or an AMG. That said, the exterior makes up for everything the interior misses out on, so let’s see what makes it special apart from the obvious.
Apart from having an additional set of wheels, the Chevrolet truck 6x6 looks eerily similar to the standard Silverado. That’s, once again, thanks to Hennessey’s wish to keep the factory look. But as they say, the devil is in the details and the Goliath 6x6 has a good number of them. The side exit exhausts, for example, are bespoke to the Goliath. Interestingly, despite featuring dual tips, each measuring three inches, the exhaust is still barely noticeable when looking at the side profile thanks to the sheer size of the Goliath. Length is the direction in which the Goliath grew the most and while official figures haven’t been released, we suspect it gained at least two feet since it now features an 8 foot bed instead of a 5-foot. Back to the details, the Goliath gets new front and rear Fab Four metal bumpers, plus 20” monoblock wheels all around with 36” tires. The truck now sits 8” higher than before which, besides making it more utilitarian, also makes it look better by exposing the heavy duty Fox suspension. The truck also doesn’t fail to advertise what it is by featuring a huge Hennessey sticker on the bed, as well as Goliath 6x6 badges in the rear. Lastly, the roll over bar behind the cabin is there mainly for show as John states, but we can forgive that as it makes the Goliath look even more like a post apocalyptic vehicle.
Yes, the power is sufficient at 450 horsepower and around 480 lb-ft of torque. That’s a nice bump over the standard 420 horsepower Chevy extracted from its L87, 6.2 liter V8 and it’s thanks to a new intake and an ECU remap. With this kind of power, the Chevy truck 6x6 will sprint to 60 in an estimated 5.6 seconds. While that’s nothing to write home about, we do have to consider that the Goliath gained at least several hundred pounds over the standard Silverado. Without official figures we can only estimate how much exactly, but if the standard Crew Cab weighs 4,700 lbs, we think it’s safe to say that the Goliath crosses the 5,000lbs mark, and not by a small margin. That said, this is Hennessey we are talking about which means more power is always an option. Right from the get go Hennessey offers an HPE700 package which adds a 2.9 liter supercharger and boosts the power to 705 horsepower. Over 800 horsepower is also possible if the customer wishes and in both cases, the 0-60 time drops into low 4s which is quite an achievement for something of its size. And since stopping all this weight is just as big of a challenge as moving it, Hennessey includes Brembo brakes on all Goliaths.
With a starting price of $375,000 for the base Goliath 6x6 without a supercharger, it was the most expensive Silverado ever made. At the same time, it was even more expensive than the Velociraptor F-150. However, the prices have deflated a fair bit over the years. Just recently, a Goliath 6x6 was posted to Exotic Car Trader for just over $200,000 and that one included the $30,000 supercharger kit which would put the Goliath’s price back in 2019 at over $400,000. No other luxury SUV comes even close to providing such a unique experience at that price point. It’s also worth mentioning that even Goliaths with the supercharger kit came with a 36,000 miles warranty which goes to say how confident Hennessey is in Goliath’s drivetrain.
With only 24 trucks built, the Goliath 6x6 is the perfect truck for Chevy enthusiasts as it's likely the most exclusive Silverado ever built. At the same time, it doesn’t lack off road capabilities thanks to its huge ground clearance, heavy duty suspension and a couple extra driven wheels. That means the Goliath 6x6 isn’t just a pavement princess but can handle virtually any off road course the driver throws at it.
