Known for combining ruggedness and luxury, the Mercedes-Benz G Wagon has been a mainstay in the automaker's lineup for decades, even if few owners venture off the pavements. Its evolution from a military vehicle to a luxury powerhouse underscores its versatility and timeless appeal. The G63 AMG, in particular, has become a favorite for those who want performance that complements the car's best qualities. And for Brabus, it's another versatile AMG platform for them to play around with. The Brabus 800 Adventure XLP is one of the best iterations resulting from that, and unlike most Brabus AMGs, you can drive it like the original G wagon, which was intended to be driven off beaten trails.
Brabus calling the 800 Adventure XLP a supercar feels like a stretch as it doesn't quite align with the usual characteristics of a supercar except in one way: power. It's powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 retained from the standard AMG G63 but with a Brabus PowerXtra + upgrade kit, which increases power output to 789 horsepower and 737 lb.ft. That's good for a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph, which is electronically limited due to the higher center of gravity and huge 22-inch all-terrain tires. But the tires and higher ground clearance are only half of the story. To fit the purpose, Brabus did away with the standard AMG suspension and replaced it with a bespoke suspension with Brabus Ride Control coilovers and portal axles that partly contribute to the 19-inch ground clearance. Plus, there's the addition of a truck bed, which, if optioned right, comes with a few Brabus adventure treats.
For an adventure-oriented car, the Brabus 800 Adventure XLP's cabin heavily contrasts with its purpose. But again, it's a Brabus, and we couldn't expect anything less. Almost every surface is wrapped in handstitched leather, from the seats to the steering wheel, door panels, and dashboards. Even the footwells, which have similar shell-shaped quilting and perforations as the seats and doors, are partly covered with leather. There's enough seating for five, which makes the cabin more adventure-worthy, but if you prefer style over practicality, Brabus can swap out the second-row bench and replace it with captain-style rear seats like in a higher-specced AMG G63. Plus, there's an option to choose from their vast array of colors and upholstery layouts.
The Brabus 800 Adventure XLP oozes class, yet it remains so rugged, thanks to Brabus retaining AMG design cues while infusing the car with some of theirs. The exterior's biggest highlight is the extended wheelbase. From just how good the car looks, you'd never imagine that the G 63 was never intended to be a pickup truck. The auxiliary LED lights, Brabus Monoblock HD wheels, steel bumpers, and a roof carrier add to the adventure aesthetic, while the carbon fiber accents add a touch of luxury and aggression. What we love most are the massive fender flares that integrate beautifully into the sidesteps, giving an impression of the car's upper body being separate from the chassis.
In typical fashion, Brabus keeps many of Mercedes' cutting-edge features intact. The Brabus 800 Adventure XLP's cabin has a 12.3-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Mercedes assistant, navigation, and a 590-watt Burmester sound system with 15 speakers. Plus, the seats are ventilated, heated, and cooled, plus there's an option to add a massaging function. Remember the suspension upgrade we mention earlier? Brabus also tweaked the dynamic select suspension adjustment switch from Mercedes to suit the upgraded suspension. The switch allows choosing from different preloaded setups like you would adjust the throttle response, steering and transmission. The tech features are better experienced than described. Here's how much it'll cost to make that happen.
Owning a Brabus 800 Adventure XLP will cost you around $415,000, a price that reflects its exclusivity and unique appeal. After all, how often do you come across a G63 with a pickup bed that's as capable as it is distinctive? Ready to buy one or perhaps another AMG G63? Explore our Mercedes listings.
