So far, the most power-packed production from the Super Series, the McLaren 750S, is a meticulous upgrade from its predecessors. As quoted by the McLaren CEO, Michael Leiters, they have delivered something even better that raises the bar again for a car recognized by so many drivers as a benchmark by examining every detail and really pushing hard for improvements – and with this V8-engined supercar, it rightfully shows! At 202 mph top speed, the new 750S boasts 740 horsepower, which is exactly 30 more than that of 720S, the variant it is based on. With the 750S, the manufacturers aim to deliver a car with enhanced agility, feedback, and dynamic capabilities. To honor its achievement of winning the Triple Crown award, the first McLaren 750S with the nameplate 3-7-59 doesn’t just consist of any random numbers but rather represents their three victories at the Indianapolis 500, Monaco Grand Prix, and 24 Hours of Le Mans. Starting at over $320,000 and going further beyond that, depending on the variant and customizations, it is no wonder that the McLaren 750S was quick to win the hearts of many racing enthusiasts around the globe.
Celebrating its 60 years, McLaren recently unveiled its upgrade to 720S, McLaren 750S, at the Velocity Invitational event in Sonoma, California, in 2023. It shares almost 70 percent of attributes similar to its latest predecessor, first released at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. It was manufactured by McLaren Automotives, a British company originating in 1963 under the chairmanship of a New Zealand racer, Bruce McLaren. While it primarily focused on motorsports, it wasn’t until 2010 that it went for its very first production car, the MP412C. It immediately became the benchmark model for supercars in the automotive industry. This was soon followed by its successor, the McLaren 650S, which served as a substantial upgrade in terms of its performance and design. Soon replaced by 720S, this was one of the signifying automotive evolution that was sure to take its place among the pioneer speed cars. The era between 2017 and 2023 was marked by the unveiling of its variants, including 720S MSO Apex Collection, 765LT, 720S Le Mans special edition, etc. Towards the end of 2023, McLaren released the third-in-line from their Super Series lineage, and its production and sales have continued to date.
McLaren 750S distinguishes itself from its older version with its seven-speed dual-clutch transmission alongside a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, delivering 740 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. The new McLaren features an increase in torque to 590 lb-ft at 5,500 rpm, with its weight cut down by 66 pounds, owing to 22 pound-feet of torque and thus a world-class weight-to-power ratio. Now weighing 3,062 lbs (DIN), the model is an exceptional pinnacle of its lightweight engineering. The vehicle also delivers 0-60 mph in an impressive 2.7 seconds. As for the top speeds, you can expect a minor six mph drop from the claimed 212 mp at gear shift - again, that’s an easy pass regardless. The car delivers absolute body control and makes the ride super extreme - all thanks to its new Proactive Chassis Control linked-hydraulic suspension, which adds to the dynamic performance brought on by 750S. The new generation is integral to the outstanding dynamic abilities of the 750S and the system delivers better levels of suspension performance. What’s different here from the 720S is that suspension springs are tuned in a way that they are softer at the front and stiffer at the rear. This suspension system explains the newly founded steering feedback cornering balance and overall stability of the vehicle. Even at low speeds, the dampers are strategically designed so that the car provides maximal steering response and axle harmony. And while it performs, 750S has been designed to keep up the connection between the driver and the vehicle, and it does so with its acoustically tuned central-exit exhaust delivering a clear, sharp crescendo and a rather ferocious bark. While it remains aerodynamically to manage the airflow, it provides that feel of a benchmark-speed car as it swiftly flies along the highway!
Focusing on the thrill of the ride, 750S houses an interior that’s not overly complicated while also serving as a serving point for their reduced-weight utility. It is designed to elicit “fun behind the wheel for the driver” with maximized driver engagement and dynamic capability. Regardless, the surfaces are stiff, featuring the carbon fiber monocoque masked under the finely textured Alcantara coverings. While that remains the standard, the model provides the options of Nappa leather and the TechLux available. It also has a variety of colorway options to choose from, including visually pleasing black, red, orange, rich tan, and dark blue inks, porcelains, teals and contrast customizations. Pair these up with a metallic crisp cabin designed to fit in a canopy-like body; these intricate details of the interior are further flattered. Featuring a tech-savvy dashboard mounted alongside the side hydraulic steering wheel, the 750S interiors set the perfect scene for the driver before even setting foot on the pedal.
Retaining their signature monocoque from MPR/1, the 750S also utilizes the same carbon fiber construction. While it actively minimized the unnecessary weight that was otherwise brought on from alternate materials, the strategic use of this framework has made 750S stand out. With the anterior visibility of delicate A-pillars along with the shiny C-pillars of the coupe - and likewise the compact curves of the Spider; all of these add to the over-the-shoulder visibility of the driver. These structures provide an expansive sight with well-curated curves and lines over the raised front wings. What’s also impressive are the dihedral doors of the Coupe that offer a wide aperture along a small section of the roof with their extra flair. What distinguishes Spider’s doors is that they are a bit shorter without requiring any additional area for a convertible roof. Similar to its predecessor’s design, the lower nose section of the car is dedicated to their signature eye sockets that enclose the headlights, only being narrower. These headlights are available to fit the body color or match the standard carbon fiber. The car's rear deck also resigned to an increase in length and height, giving it that raised wing look sitting about the central exit exhaust.
While the 750S didn’t back down with providing all the necessary features and luxury, it is essential to remember that the attention is highly inclined towards delivering the pleasure of speeding a sports car. Regardless, it does not disappoint with technological advancement. The driver-centric display, which moves along with the steering column, features the controls for Powertrain and Handling modes to switch between comfort, sport, and track active options without losing too much control of the steering wheel. Also debuted for the first time on 750S, the McLaren Control Launcher (MCL) offers a personalized dynamic combination of aero, handling, powertrain, and transmission, delivering an astonishingly tailor-made experience fit to your needs. You can also facilitate other features, including the rearview and side view camera system, Apple CarPlay, the new Central Information Screen, and the caliper cooling technology inspired by Formula-1. An awe-inspiring feature indeed that offers the best of both worlds is the Variable Drift Control. This setting is perfect for racers who prefer to independently adjust the traction control system without interfering with the car’s default electronic system. Also engineered particularly for McLaren, 750S, amongst most models, lets you stick to the standard Pirelli P ZERO tires or opt for their even more advanced Corsa and racetrack-focusedTrofeo R tires. Lastly, the standard electrically powered steering column is the reason behind those tweaked-up noise, vibration, and harshness properties.
McLaren 750S, the all-new release from the renowned British manufacturers, is highly in demand. According to the US market, the official quotes for the Coupe are US$324,000 and US$345,000 for the Spider variant. While both the models are entirely similar other than, of course, the roof retracting part, one way the Coupe stands out is its 108 pounds less weight than the Spider, as per the manufacturer’s claims. As of now, it is available to order from McLaren retailers. At the same time, we urge you to check out our recent McLaren listings.
